Self-care is not always easy to do―in fact, there are some people who are still struggling to really be at the stage they are successful in doing self-care to themselves. Of course, in prioritizing self-care, there are a number of things that we will find out later in our journey to succeed in self-care. Even over time, we may lose some of the things that are in our life. However, we will be able to accept these things well after we learn many aspects of self-care itself. For this reason, what are the things that might be hard to swallow when we prioritize our self-care? Check out below, and oh, anyway, this writing was inspired by We’re Not Really Strangers.

You will disappoint some people or even many people in your life when you prioritize your self-care.

Beforehand, you always put other people as the top priority in your life―now, your preferences will change. Over time, you will pay more attention or prioritize yourself first than other people. Moreover, you will also learn to say no. If previously you always said yes to every other person’s request just because you wanted to please them or maybe you didn’t dare to reject them―now, you are not even frightened to say no to anyone if it makes you uncomfortable or doesn’t produce anything useful for yourself.

The boundaries that you create in your life at this time will make other people slowly leave your life.

If previously you didn’t have any borders in your life, it makes other people behave as they like without thinking about your feelings. Soon after, when you establish a new boundary in your life, there are some people who don’t accept it and choose to leave. Whoever chooses to get out of your life, just let it go. You don’t owe anyone an apology for being care for yourself first.

What you are doing now is not something that can benefit you in the present, but the main goal is for your better future.

By improving yourself to be better and prioritizing your self-care now, extraordinary results will shine in your future. You will get something valuable and useful for yourself in the future.

You have no obligation to be there for other people or even to look after them 24 hours a day.

You have no responsibility to always say yes to every invitation of your friends, reply to messages or pick up people’s calls quickly, give all your time to other people more than you give yourself more, listen to all the criticisms or judgments of others of you, as well as emotional support that you should give to yourself first. Self-care isn’t selfish; it's how you put yourself first before others.

Self-care is needed to let go of all relationships, habits, and even choices or decisions that are no longer in line with you.

Self-care is the new health care. When you pay more attention to yourself, you may lose some of the things in your life. However, this loss makes you realize that these things should no longer exist in your life since it no longer serves you.

When you needed self-care the most, it will seem tough to do even to be well received. Yet, when you successfully carry out self-care to yourself, you will feel satisfied with your achievements or even you will say to yourself, “Why am I just doing it now? Why didn’t I do it for a long time?” Trust me, it feels joyful, relieved, and peaceful when you are truly successful in prioritizing your self-care. Looks very effortless, even though in the reality, it’s not so smooth. Since we talking about self-care, I am still learning to be able to make myself a priority and love myself more. No doubt, it’s challenging. Nonetheless, I believe I can get through it and I enjoy every process in order to achieve a more harmonious, and happier life. For those of you who doing self-care for the sake of your happiness, you’re doing it great! Keep up the good work.
